The sound
- Does the sound keep playing with the screen locked?
- Yes. Hush Machine plays in the background and shows its controls on the Lock Screen, so you can lock the phone and leave it.
- How does the sleep timer work?
- Set a time from 15 minutes to 12 hours, or let it play until you stop it. At the end the sound fades out slowly over the fade time you choose, from 1 to 30 minutes.
- Will I hear a loop?
- No. Every sound is generated live on the iPhone and never repeats, so there is no loop point.
- Can I play it with a podcast or music?
- Yes, in Focus mode Hush Machine plays alongside other audio. In the other modes it takes over the audio, like any player.
- How loud should it be for a baby?
- Keep it quiet and the phone or speaker away from the cot. Baby mode caps the volume. Follow the published advice for parents, such as the American Academy of Pediatrics', rather than a number from us.
- Can it help with ringing in my ears?
- Ears mode lets you find the pitch of the ringing and play a gentle band of noise around it, which may make the ringing less noticeable. It is not a treatment; for ringing in your ears, see a doctor or an audiologist.
Paying
- Is there a subscription?
- No, never. The colours on the dial, the timer and three mixes are free. Plus is a one-time purchase, sound packs are one-time purchases, and Lifetime includes Plus and every pack, now and later.
- How does the free trial work?
- You can try Plus free for 3 nights. Nothing is charged after the 3 nights; Plus stays locked unless you buy it.
- How do I restore my purchase on a new iPhone?
- Sign in with the same Apple Account and tap Restore purchases in Settings in the app. Purchases are handled by Apple, so refunds go through Apple too.
Privacy
- Why does it ask for the microphone?
- Only for Room match and Sound match, which listen for 10 seconds on your iPhone to set the sound. Nothing is recorded or kept, only measured. Record your own saves a recording on your iPhone only when you choose to record. Everything else works without the microphone.
- What data does the app collect?
- None. There is no account, no tracking and no analytics in the app. See the privacy policy.
